Guía Detallada

Paşabağ contains Cappadocia's most distinctive geological formations — fairy chimneys with two or three caps balanced on a single column. The name 'Monks Valley' comes from the Christian hermit Simeon, who is said to have lived in a cave carved into one of the chimneys during the 5th century. Today the chimney contains a small chapel that visitors can climb into. The site is a 5-minute drive from Göreme, accessible by car, scooter, or as part of a 'Red Tour'. Entry is free (parking is the only cost). The site has multiple short walking paths through the formations and good viewpoints. Photographers come for golden-hour light (1 hour before sunset) when the chimneys glow orange. A small market sells local pottery and snacks. Paşabağ pairs well with Devrent Valley (Imagination Valley, 2 km away) and Avanos pottery workshops in a single afternoon.

Preguntas Frecuentes

Why is it called Monks Valley?

The site takes its name from Simeon, a 5th-century Christian hermit who reportedly lived in one of the fairy chimneys. The chimney still contains a small chapel that visitors can climb.

How long does it take to visit Paşabağ?

30 minutes is enough for a quick photo stop. 60 minutes lets you climb into the hermit's chapel and walk the back trails for less-crowded shots of the formations.

Is Paşabağ on the Red or Green Tour?

Paşabağ is on the Red Tour (north Cappadocia), typically combined with Devrent Valley, Avanos pottery, and Göreme viewpoints. The Green Tour visits south Cappadocia (Derinkuyu, Ihlara, Selime).

Can I walk to Paşabağ from Göreme?

It's 5 km — walkable but along a road with light traffic. Most visitors drive, take a taxi, or rent a scooter. The walk takes 60–75 minutes one-way.
